The Horror Show at Extreme Rules was one of the worse PPVs in the lockdown era, with far too much silliness and eye gouge related stipulations to be truly enjoyable. Its nadir, though, was in the trip we took to the Wyatt family swamp, where we experienced one of the year’s stupidest “matches”.

The Fiend and Braun Strowman are two characters best used sparingly, monstrous figures whose auras are damaged by overexposure. The Wyatt Swamp Fight really laid bare their limitations. It’s not the fault of Strowman or Wyatt, but combining these two dark personas for a cinematic match rich in backstory and lore was a risky move, and one which didn’t pay off.

There were far too many twists and turns, none of which were ever explained in any detail. Strowman had a doppelganger. Wyatt seemed to drown his foe to death, only for Braun to pop up on Raw, good as new. They once again found themselves on shaky ground with The Fiend, who is apparently an entirely separate entity to Bray (when they want him to be).

Calling the match a horror show may be a little harsh, but it certainly wasn’t good/ After Bray took part in perhaps the year’s best cinematic match at WrestleMania, this was always going to be a step down.
