2. RETRIBUTION
We could have used just about any picture of the dreadfully booked stable here, but this image of RETRIBUTION causing “chaos” is emblematic of the key issue at the heart of the group - they just don’t make any sense.
RETRIBUTION were teased as an anarchist group ready to shake up the system and bring down WWE. They caused chaos on a regular basis, disrupting the power and chainsawing through the ring ropes in perhaps their most dramatic sequence.
Later, the members were introduced. They were given masks and stupid names, announced their demands through leader Mustafa Ali, and wound up… signing WWE contracts. It’s abundantly clear that the writers had no idea where they were headed with this, and the mismanagement of some highly talented performers has likely put the lot of them back a bit.
As a wrestling rule of thumb, chainsaws never look as cool as you think they’re going to. They were supposed to be booked as badass rebels, and instead come across like a gang of goons. They never stood a chance.
