10 Most Deserving Ways A Vacant Wrestling Title Was Won

1. Ric Flair (Royal Rumble 1992)

16-man tournaments are all well and good, especially when they take place in one night. The ultimate test of endurance though, is provided by the Royal Rumble.

So when Ric Flair won the 1992 edition to claim the vacant WWF Championship, surely that has to go down as the most deserving vacant championship victory in all of WWE history.

Flair had been with the company just a matter of months prior to his Herculean effort. Of course, Flair was not your usual rookie, and he used his decades of experience—not to mention his overwhelming natural talent—to enter the match at number three, last for over 60 minutes and finish as the last man standing.

As impressive as that kind of performance was, it was entirely fitting for a man of Flair’s stature. After establishing himself as perhaps the greatest world champion in the history of the business, this was the perfect way for him to replicate that success in the WWE and prove to a new audience that he was every bit as good as he claimed to be.
