10 Most Disappointing Wrestling Ladder Matches Of All Time

2. Goldberg Vs. Scott Hall - WCW Souled Out 1999

Goldberg was not built to carry a long match. Period. He was supposed to get into the ring, brutalize his opponent in the shortest amount of time possible, hit the spear, then the jackhammer, and get the pin. So a 15-minute ladder match is pretty much the least ideal situation to put Bill Goldberg in. The fact that he was supposedly operating at less than 100 percent with a bum knee that Scott Hall continuously worked over added an interesting layer to the story of that match, but ultimately it wasn't an addition that made the match look any better. Putting "the monster" in that kind of trouble for the first time in his career sounds great on paper, but Scott Hall wasn't the guy to do it with. Hall obviously had a good deal of experience in ladder matches at that point, but those hoping to see glimmers of his sensational work with Shawn Michaels in WWE would have to look elsewhere. The obvious differences between Goldberg and Michaels--not just in terms of athleticism, but in storytelling ability, as well--shone bright at Souled Out. The two biggest spots of the match both involved Goldberg simply pushing Scott Hall off the ladder and onto the ropes. Give credit to Hall for selling it like a champ, but his workmanship couldn't redeem this bland contest. Also, note to Vince Russo: STOP ADDING UNNECESSARY ELEMENTS TO A MATCH JUST FOR SH*TS. This was already a ladder match, did you really need to incorporate a taser? All that did was allow Goldberg to take the air out of the room by waving the taser around for an insufferable amount of time before finally hitting his signature moves ten minutes after he probably should have.
