10 Most Disappointing Wrestling Ladder Matches Of All Time

3. Edge Vs. Christian - No Mercy 2001

They're one half of the reason that ladder matches enjoyed a resurgence during the Attitude Era. Edge and Christian's match with the Hardy Boyz at No Mercy '99 reminded viewers that they really hadn't seen everything, and that there was still plenty of room to innovate within the tag team division. With that backstory in place, there was ostensibly no reason to expect anything less than a stellar showing from Edge and Christian when they faced off against each other two years later in a singles ladder match. And yet, the final result was pretty confounding. The sibling jealousy story never really took hold during the match, despite the numerous attempts at finding reasonable excuses not to climb the ladder when one of them is incapacitated for long periods of time. "He doesn't even care, he just wants to inflict more punishment on his brother!" is the J.R. line that surely ran through their minds as they organized the nonsensical spots in this match. And although it had its moments, this match was far too often the victim of bad timing. There were several unexplained lulls in the action, with one or the other trying to stall to allow their opponent to get into place. Pretty much the entirety of the last half was built around 90-second set-ups to perform lukewarm stunts. And I'm just going to say it: There was no reason to have three ladders in the ring. When you have more ladders than you do wrestlers, that's not a good thing. It's especially egregious since they were really only used to deliver that ridiculously overblown Con-Chair-To, which didn't deserve the gigantic pop it received from the crowd. (It was just a regular Con-Chair-To...but...twenty feet higher.)
