2. The Entire Al Wilson Angle
By simply charting the progression of this angle, I should be able to easily demonstrate why it's one of the most disturbing family-based storylines in WWE history. In fact, if you read this and still find yourself questioning its place on this list, you're probably going to have to ask yourself some serious questions. In late 2002, Dawn Marie began a relationship with the elderly Al Wilson in order to get at rival Torrie - Al's daughter. No, WWE didn't draft in an actor to play Al (and if you thought they might have done, you clearly haven't been paying attention so far). To Torrie's dismay, the pair quickly became engaged. Dawn promised to break it off if she could spend a night of passion with Torrie, because this was during the era when pretty much every woman in the company was portrayed as homosexual in some way, shape or form. Girls, eh? The marriage went ahead anyway (what, you were hoping for clarity and logic in this storyline?), and the pair even stripped to their underwear for the service. Because why not? Then things took a rather unexpected (but expected because WWE) turn: Al died while consummating the marriage. Yes, WWE ran an angle where, if you'll excuse the euphemism, Dawn Marie "loved" her rival's elderly father to death. This led to more interminable Torrie/Dawn matches and one of the worst, most poorly-acted funerals in WWE history. Just awful on every level.
