Breaking Point pulled approx 169,000 buys on pay-per-view in September 2009. That number was almost half what Hell In A Cell would do the next month (300,000), and that tells the full story: WWE fans viewed Breaking Point as a skippable show. That's why many won't recall Randy Orton torturing John Cena.

Keep in mind was just over one year following the headfirst dive into PG territory.

Mid-match, Orton handcuffed Cena to the ring post, tried to drown him with the contents of a water bottle and then belted seven shades out of his ribs with a cane. There was visible bruising on John's torso, and he looked like he might vomit at one point from the pain. Honestly, it was gnarly stuff, especially considering the "child-friendly" product.

WWE didn't shy away from the implication that Orton was loving every second of the torture he was putting Cena through. The announcers did their hushed tones bit, Cena contorted his face in misery, fans looked on in disbelief and Randy looked like he'd just fired up PornHub.
