10 Most Emotional Wrestling Matches

Let's end on a less morbid note.

If people had believed Ric Flair's career might end back at Starrcade '93, then they were really positive it could by 2008's WrestleMania XXIV. The angle had Flair wrestling a potential last match every time he stepped foot in the ring, and that included his 'Mania miracle against Shawn Michaels.

Aged 59, Ric somehow upheld his end of the bargain and delivered the kind of match a Flair-adoring kid-come-superworker like Michaels must have always dreamed about. This, without question, was the best bout Ric had worked for years and years, possibly decades. It was destined to end in tears.

HBK's pre-Superkick whisper of, "I'm sorry, I love you" told it all. So did Flair's bubbling as he pictured retirement from the ring, and a remorseful Shawn contemplating what he'd done on the ring apron. The next night, Flair would get a fitting send off by WWE. Even though he'd spoil things a tad by returning to the ring a few times afterwards, nothing could destroy the emotion of 'Mania.
