This may well be the most violent squash match in WWE history. It was uncomfortable to watch at the time, and the years that have passed haven't exactly softened the impact Lesnar's destruction of amputee Gowan has on the viewer. If ever there was a list of performers not doing so well in their hometown, Gowan's luck in his native city here must top it.

Gowan's mother was in the front row to witness the ruination of her son, and despite all and sundry knowing full well that pro wrestling is a form of performance art, this could not have been a pleasant experience for Mama Gowan. Lesnar was already established as a beast at this point, but his annihilation of Gowan took him to another level.

Lesnar blasted Gowan with two earth-shattering powerbombs, before picking up a chair that he has no intention of using for its initial purpose. The chair led to Gowan winning the match by disqualification, but calling Zack Gowan the winner of this match isn't exactly correct. The history books say Gowan won, but the blood on the mat suggested otherwise.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
