What a way for a record-breaking Intercontinental Championship reign to end. By the time the very first SummerSlam came around, The Honky Tonk Man had held the IC Championship for a frankly incredible 64 weeks. Honky had taken on all-comers at this point, and despite losing most of his defences by countout or DQ (in fairness, he did pin Hilbilly Jim and Koko B. Ware) it seemed as though he was destined to keep the title forever.

His opponent at the inaugural SummerSlam was a mystery however, after his initial opponent Brutus Beefcake had fallen prey to an injury. Who would it be? Honky didn't care: he was on top of the world. Then some familiar music hit, the crowd went apesh*t and Honky knew his time was up.

The match was over in no time. Warrior hit all the moves he knew and pinned the champ in less than a minute, ending his reign in the process. What a way for a reign to end.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
