10 Most Heavily Protected Wrestling Finishers Ever
3. 3D (Dudley Boyz)
The Dudley Boyz' CAGEMATCH profile lists a total of 1,351 matches for Bubba Ray and D-Von as a tag team. In all likelihood, they worked even more than that, as not everything can be archived even on a website as vast as CAGEMATCH.
It's quite remarkable to think, then, that according to Bubba, the Dudleyz' 3D finisher has only been kicked out of by three people. That would be a rough average of once every 450 matches.
Insane.
Masato Tanaka kicked out of it while teaming with Balls Mahoney to face Bubba and D-Von at ECW November to Remember 1998. Five years later, a missed Sylvain Grenier cue led to René Duprée being forced to kick out of the move in a WWE bout. Then, in 2010, Chris Sabin did the deal as Team 3D wrestled the Motor City Machine Guns at TNA Turning Point.
This was billed as a retirement match, with the MCMG's victory forcing Bubba and D-Von to split. The long-time partners then leapt into a feud, with the kickout given such significance that it formed the basis of the rivalry. Bubba blamed D-Von for "ruining" the 3D, and off they went, protecting the finisher's power by treating the unthinkable kickout as the most personally devastating thing in the world.
