10 Most Horrific Wrestling Injuries
3. Sid Vicious
On January 14, 2001, Sid Vicious went to war with Scott Steiner, Jeff Jarrett and Animal in a four way match with the WCW World Title at stake.
WCW’s management team purportedly believed the big man needed to diversify his wrestling move repertoire. They suggested trying an aerial move much to Vicious’ chagrin. Vicious would suffer fractured leg after jumping from the second rope to hit a big boot on Steiner. Landing badly with all of his weight on one foot broke his left leg in half, with at least one of the bones bursting through the skin.
An over foot long rod was inserted into his leg during a two-hour surgery to correct the numerous fractures. For a time after, Vicious needed a cane to walk. He would go on to sue WCW during this time, claiming that he was forced to attempt the jump despite against his apprehension. WCW would soon after be defeated and purchased by the WWF.
After three and a half years of rehabilitation and training, Sid would make his return to active wrestling on June 5, 2004. He has appeared sporadically for numerous promotions in the years since.
