Darren ‘Droz’ Drozdov’s (formerly known as Puke) in ring career ended tragically after suffering a life altering neck injury during a match with D’Lo Brown for a taping of WWF Smackdown! taping in October, 1999.

Sporting a loose-fitting shirt during the match, Drozdov had unintentionally made it much harder for Brown to grip him safely whilst performing a running powerbomb. Subsequently, Droz did not manage to perform the required jump to assist in the lifting for the powerbomb.

Instead, Drozdov landed directly on his head and fractured two vertebrae in his neck. He was immediately rushed to a local medical facility to undergo emergency surgery to reduce and the pressure on his broken neck. Whilst the match itself was never aired to the public, footage of Drozdov being carried away on a stretcher has often been shown in the company’s warnings against trying wrestling moves at home.

Rendered a quadriplegic with little to no movement below the neck initially, Drozdov has since restored some movement in his upper body and arms.

In the years since, Drozdov has continued working for WWE as a columnist for their website and various magazines.
