10 Most Important Off-Screen WWE Personnel

4. Jerry McDevitt

Since 1987, Pittsburgh attorney Jerry McDevitt has been both Vince McMahon's bulletproof vest and personal armoury, shielding the company during its many, many legal issues, whilst gunning down courtroom opponents of their own.

McDevitt impressed during his first trial for the company, when against all odds he managed to convince a jury that Jim Neidhart, a 300+lb bruiser known for his volatile temper on-screen, hadn't decked a flight attendant over a drinks dispute.

In 1993, he earned a contract for life, successfully keeping McMahon out of the slammer during the 1993 steroid trial which threatened to sink the whole ship. The WWE chairman was ultimately acquitted of all charges of distributing physique-enhancing substances. McDevitt has been on a retainer ever since, most recently seeing that Konstantine Kyros' class-action concussion suit was thrown out of court.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
