4. Batista And John Cena Botch The Royal Rumble Finish

By January 2005, it was apparent to anyone paying attention to the WWE product that Batista and John Cena were pegged to be the top stars in Vince McMahon's company for the foreseeable future. They had each been pushed heavily in the lead-in to Royal Rumble and most experts had one of them favored to win the whole thing.

The final two competitors in the 30-man match, it was a sure thing that either or would emerge victoriously. Then it happened.

Batista hoisted Cena overhead for a Batista Bomb and...fell backward over the top rope, both men landing on their asses in a finish that had some reliving the cringe-inducing conclusion to the 1994 bout.

Vince McMahon erupted through the curtain furiously (more on that in a moment) and ordered the match restarted. Batista would win the whole thing but one could not help but think the special moment had been forever tainted by the humiliating flub that nearly doomed The Animal and The Doctor of Thuganomics before they could ever taste championship gold.
