The Ultimate Warrior had the WWF over a barrel in the summer of 1991, and it was problematic because of the upcoming SummerSlam pay-per-view he was supposed to co-headline alongside Hulk Hogan. Although likely incensed by Warrior's demands, Vince McMahon had no choice but to go along with them in the short term.

Besides, some of Warrior's wording in the letter he penned to Vince in July would come back to haunt him post-show.

Warrior demanded $550,000 for performing at WrestleMania VII, wanted a guaranteed number of (limited) working days per month, fancied getting his hands on some of the WWF's merch money and insisted on his accommodation and travel being paid for.

McMahon acquiesced, to get Warrior in the ring at SummerSlam, then suspended him afterwards for threatening to stay at home. That line, one Warrior had ended his initial request with, gave the WWF an out for the deal. Vince also described Warrior's strong-arming as making "exorbitant demands".
