10 Most Insane WWE Royal Rumble Spots Ever

1. The Rock's Brutal Chair Shots (1999)

As careless as Jeff Hardy's dive was, at least it had some sort of control and only happened once. Meanwhile, one year prior at the 1999 Rumble, a pain-ravaged Mick Foley soaked up countless unprotected steel chair shots to the noggin. This was violence overkill for sure.

It also caused some friction between Foley and The Rock.

In one of his books, Mick noted how he was only supposed to suffer a few blows before the action spilled out of the ring. Completely out of it and struggling to remain conscious, Foley kept getting back to his feet though, so Rocky (likely thinking his peer was working off-the-cuff) decided to keep belting him with the chair.

According to Mick and Bruce Prichard, that wasn't the plan. In short, The Rock went off script and repeatedly rained down sickeningly-hard blows to Foley's head as Mick's wife and young kids watched from ringside. There was a worrying moment when Mick rested against the bottom rope and looked totally dead to the world.

Insane.
