10 Most Insane WWE Royal Rumble Spots Ever

3. Steel Chair Vs. Chainsaw (1998)

Cactus Jack Chainsaw Charlie Royal Rumble 1998
WWE Network

Everyone knows how it goes by now: two folks start the Rumble and trade some rudimentary sequences before a third entrant comes in to spice up the action. Or, if you're Terry Funk and Mick Foley, you'll ignore the third person (poor Tom Brandi) and instead wage war with steel chairs and an actual chainsaw.

What a pair of egg-sucking dogs, and we love them for it.

When this writer was a kid, he was absolutely terrified of Funk's 'Chainsaw Charlie' gimmick. Everything, from the pair of tights covered in weird white powder (!?) over his head to the aforementioned chainsaw gave him the willies. Thankfully, good old Cactus was there to combat his nightmarish attacks with a trusty chair.

There's never been a Rumble open like this since. Maybe that's due to the fact that utilising a working chainsaw with very-real blades is super-dangerous. The game of chair shots to the head Foley and Funk worked shortly thereafter is also part of this insanity.
