Whilst not as indestructible as he was in 2009, John Cena in 2015 was still very much treated as a final boss.

That's why it was so surprising and glorious to see a brand-new face defeat him clean as you like at Elimination Chamber 2015.

Then-NXT Champion Kevin Owens made his Raw debut in May to confront Cena. His first segment on the red show ended with him laying Cena out with a powerbomb, before stamping on his United States title whilst raising the NXT one up high.

Ooooh, symbolism...

The utter disdain shown by Owens led to a match between the two at Elimination Chamber and what a match it was. Owens' freakish combination of size, speed, and athleticism brought the very best about of the Peacemaker, who himself was turning a corner in-ring since becoming US Champ.

Owens stunned the world when he hit Cena with another pop-up powerbomb to beat WWE's golden boy in the middle of the ring.

Umaga. Wade Barrett. Bray Wyatt. These were all men whose careers floundered after they failed to beat John Cena. Kevin Owens broke the Cena curse clean in two, setting the stage for his rise to mega-stardom.
