10 Most Memorable WWE Raw Moments From 1998

1. DX Invades Nitro

Date: April 27th There are a lot of specific incidents and decisions that fans can point to as terrible ideas made by WCW through the years. This just happens to be one of them. By chance, both Raw and Nitro were being held in the same state in the same week. Raw was in Hampton, Virginia. Nitro was less than 30 minutes away in Norfolk, Virginia. It wasn't exactly a common happening, so the WWF had the idea of sending Degeneration X to the arena Nitro was going to take place in, and they sent them in a militarized jeep with a cannon on it. DX spent a large amount of time driving around and making fun of WCW, getting fans on camera to admit that they thought WCW sucked or that their Nitro tickets were free. It was quite the "shots fired" moment. Then, they had the great idea of driving the jeep right up to the parking lot gate, trying to get into the building. This is where WCW screwed up, because they had security guards lock the gate before DX could get inside. They denied DX entry into the building, at a time when letting them in would have meant that every wrestling fan with a television set would have tuned in to Nitro to see what would happen. It would have popped one of the biggest quarter-hour (or multiple quarter hours) ratings wrestling has ever seen. Instead, WCW got made fun of, then came across as being afraid of DX (and the WWF, as a whole). It was a bold move by Vince McMahon, but it's something that paid off tremendously.
