Date: December 7th The Attitude Era was full of people and things that would push the envelope, and would often find times where things may have gone "too far". When you anger groups of people who want to protest your shows and complain to your sponsors, that may be a time when you've gone "too far". During the feud between Steve Austin and The Undertaker, the envelope was pushed to that point when a "concussed" Austin was carried by Taker and, with the help of Taker's Druids, was tied to a gigantic cross-like symbol on the stage. His feet were tied together, and his arms were spread open and tied down. The symbol was then raised, and the visual was quite clear... Austin had been "crucified" and was portraying Jesus Christ, while the newly heel Taker, with his especially dark character, was basically the Devil. Religious groups were livid. The incident even made the news in many parts of the country, as complaints continued to pour in. Unlike a similar angle in ECW two years earlier, with Raven and his cronies tying The Sandman to a cross and forcing a crown made of barbed wire onto his head, no apologies were given out for this one, and the WWF moved ahead with everything as scheduled.
