2. Shane Douglas

How he was used: The dean of a college.

He he should have been used: Like he was in ECW.

Everything about Dean Douglas was completely idiotic on every conceivable level. Whoever came up with his act deserves detention...in hell! Okay, maybe that's a bit too far. But there were still many issues with this act.

First off, what college has a 31-year-old dean of the school? What dean dresses in a graduation robe? How could one possibly be the dean of a school and be a full-time wrestler? And most importantly, why give that stupid gimmick to the talented Douglas?

In ECW, Shane Douglas revitalized himself as a character. He became one of the best talkers in the business, and grew to be a solid worker. In the WWF, all of that was looked over. He briefly won the Intercontinental Title, but only to pass it from one Kliq member to the next. And boy, did they ever hate Douglas.

Even in Shawn Michaels first book, he went out of his way to bury Douglas, saying that you just couldn’t get a good match out of him. Odd that he didn’t take the same digs at other opponents of his like Sid Vicious, or Mabel or Yokozuna.

Well, whatever the deal was with Douglas and The Kliq, it got him out of the company quick. A shame, as had he stayed, he likely would have excelled in the company’s Attitude Era. You can only imagine how much money his enemies and his atrocious gimmick cost him.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
