How he was used: An ineffective stalker and a motivational speaker.

How he should have been used: As a hardworking man of the people.

DDP was in the wrestling business for years before he got over. He was too flashy and too loud as a manager, and that weird act carried over into his early wrestling run. It wasn’t until he started acting as the everyman, the “People’s Champion” did he find his calling. Fans could relate to him as a guy who had to bust his a** for everything he had, and never gave up along the way.

That was all tossed out the window in WWE. He came in as a stalker, a guy who would harass The Undertaker’s wife and go through her belongings. It was a drastic change, and way out of character from anything we’d seen from him in WCW. It didn’t work. People wanted to cheer the star as soon as he arrived, but were forced to boo him.

Had Page came in as a good guy, with the same attitude that made him a top star in WCW, he would have had dream matches with The Rock, Steve Austin, Kurt Angle and others waiting for him. But after all the damage done to him, his highest profile match was against Christian for the European Title at WrestleMania 18.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
