How he was used: At first creepy, then as a goofy comedy act.

How he should have been used: Kept creepy.

WWE had it right when they first created the Goldust character. An androgynous, bizarre character that was one-of-a-kind, and years ahead of its time.

Much like The Undertaker, it’s a gimmick that could have evolved with the times and taken on different forms. Goldust could have been an upper mid-card act, one that occasionally enters the main event scene to put over a top babyface.

WWE sadly made The Bizarre One do comedy. WWE comedy. As in really, really bad comedy. As soon as that happened, Vince McMahon was infatuated with him. He loved the stupid humor, and besides a brief heel run in 2002, Goldust's character has progressively gotten dumber.

He’s had tourettes, he’s teamed with Booker T and R-Truth, married Aksana and yet, through it all, somehow improved as a worker in his 40s. Not that he's given much of a chance to show off his in-ring work these days.

Dustin Runnels is good at whatever he does, there’s no doubt about that. But he could have been worth so much more to the company if they could have just got over their need for awful, embarrassing humor on a weekly basis.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
