10 Most Momentous WWE SummerSlam Title Changes In History

4. Charlotte Flair Wins The SmackDown Women's Championship (2018)

This entry is less about who won a championship at SummerSlam and more about who didn't. The 2018 edition of the event saw a SmackDown Women's Championship triple threat featuring champion, Carmella, Charlotte Flair, and a certain Becky Lynch.

Lynch had originally earned a one-on-one match with Carmella, but Charlotte was added to the mix upon her return to the WWE following surgery. This made Lynch more than a little annoyed at her supposed best friend, but the Irishwoman remained civil in the weeks leading up to SummerSlam. However, when Charlotte stole the victory from Becky during this match, The Lass Kicker had had enough.

Lynch attacked Charlotte after the bell, supposedly turning heel although you wouldn't know it from the rapturous applause she received from the crowd. Fans had been desperate for Lynch to portray herself more seriously and this "heel turn", coupled with their apathy to Charlotte winning yet another championship, gave them exactly what they wanted.

Charlotte's victory at SummerSlam was the catalyst for Becky Lynch's rise to stardom and her eventual spot in the main event of WrestleMania 35. It goes to show that even a disappointing decision in wrestling can come good in the end.
