10 Most Momentous WWE SummerSlam Title Changes In History
5. Brock Lesnar Wins The WWE Championship (2002)
SummerSlam 2002 was a stacked night of action that included Rey Mysterio's WWE Pay-Per-View debut, the in-ring return of Shawn Michaels, and a seismic main event between WWE Champion, The Rock, and Brock Lesnar.
Lesnar had made his main roster WWE debut only four months earlier, but already had a King of the Ring victory and an undefeated streak under his belt. As for The Rock, he was beginning to dip his toes in the waters of Hollywood and, as a result, was winding down his full-time wrestling career.
After a great match, Lesnar countered the Rock Bottom and hit Dwayne with a thunderous F5 to win his first WWE title at the age of just 25. This makes Lesnar the youngest person to win sports entertainment's greatest prize and, much like with Randy Orton, this win was a sign of things to come from The Beast.
Despite Randy breaking Brock's record two years later, Lesnar's title win is far more historic. Not only does it concern a more valuable championship, but it set in motion Lesnar's reign of dominance across multiple sports and laid the groundwork for him to become the special attraction he is today.
