10 Most Momentous WWE SummerSlam Title Changes In History
2. Randy Orton Wins The WWE Championship (2013)
SummerSlam 2013 will go down in history as a night that changed wrestling forever. The scheduled main event of the show ended with crowd favourite, Daniel Bryan, finally capturing the WWE Championship after a gruelling match with John Cena. This should have been Bryan's night to celebrate with his loyal fans, but a certain snake had other ideas.
Randy Orton, who was Mr. Money in the Bank at the time, made his way down to the ring and stared down a defiant Bryan. However, before the new champ could defend himself, he was sideswiped by the man who had just counted his winning pinfall - special referee, Triple H.
The Game laid out Bryan with a Pedigree and allowed Orton to cover his prone body and successfully cash in. Orton was champion, Bryan was defeated, and things would never be the same again.
This match not only signalled the beginning of The Authority - a stable that dominated WWE programming for the next two-and-a-half years - but it also set in motion Daniel Bryan's route to WrestleMania XXX and everything that followed. If you're looking for moments that shaped modern wrestling, then you won't find many more important than this.
