10 Most Notorious Goldberg Urban Legends

1. Chris Jericho Beat Him In A Real Fight

The Legend: That Chris Jericho beat Goldberg in a backstage fight in 2003. The Evidence: Goldberg and Jericho had heat stemming back to WCW in 1998. Jericho, who was then struggling to break the glass ceiling and was still mainly stuck in cruiserweight purgatory, suggested that he feud with Goldberg who was one of the hottest stars in the company. Jericho would challenge Goldberg to a match and, when Goldberg wouldn't come out, he would declare himself the winner. He even beat up a Golberg-looking jobber at Fall Brawl and declared himself the winner again. Goldberg didn't see the funny side and beat Jericho very quickly on Nitro to end the kind-of feud. This understandably annoyed Jericho. Goldberg had refused to wrestle him on pay-per-view because he wanted to go hunting that day and Jericho had to settle for being squashed on Nitro. He felt as though the company, and Goldberg, were flushing money down the toilet. Fast forward five years and there was still clearly some tension between the two. According to Jericho's second autobiography, somebody backstage relayed to him that Goldberg had been running Jericho down while he was in the ring. Y2J confronted Goldberg, who put his hand on Jericho's throat. Jericho responded by subduing him with a front facelock which Goldberg couldn't get out of. Is It True: Kind of. Jericho did get the upper hand but it doesn't sound like much of a fight. Jericho has, in the past, talked about the 'fight' like he easily beat Goldberg but has since come clean about the incident. Goldberg has said about the incident that 'it was ridiculous. It was the furthest thing from a fight that I think I've ever seen. But he knows the truth and I know the truth'. The funniest part of the story is that, according to Jericho, Vince McMahon texted him afterwards asking him what had happened and said 'I can't believe you beat up Goldberg. You really have to tell me stuff like that'.
