7. He Got The Hulk Nickname Because He Looked Bigger Than The Incredible Hulk Lou Ferrigno On A Talk Show
Story: This is a story told in a lot of different places including Hogan's 2002
Hollywood Hulk Hogan autobiography. He was wrestling as Terry Boulder in his early years and he was on a talk show in Mobile, Alabama that also had Lou Ferrigno, who was on
The Incredible Hulk TV show. Hogan claims that the host said: "Oh my God, you're bigger than Lou Ferrigno. You're bigger than the Hulk!" Both guys were pretty huge especially at that time when steroids were prevalent, so Hogan might have been bigger than him. According to Hogan, when he got to the arena the other wrestlers called him Hulk because they saw his TV spot and that's how he got the name. Soon after that he was getting build as Terry "The Hulk" Boulder and eventually he started using the Hulk Hogan name.
Why People Believe It: It's a story that Hogan has mentioned many times over the years and he tells it in such a convincing way that most people are going to think he's telling the truth.
Should We Believe It: Yes. Anything Hogan says should be taken with a grain of salt, but it would be difficult to find this interviewer in Mobile from over 30 years ago that could verify this story. Finding a clip of it would be even harder. The story is probably true.
