4. Went To Bat For Steve Austin With WWF Office

Story: 1995 was a confusing year for Steve Austin. Fired by WCW, the man went from venting his frustrations in ECW to being a bit-part player in the then-WWF. Cast as 'The Ringmaster', Austin realised that he had his work cut out for him if he wanted to be a success in the promotion. Behind the scenes, Jake Roberts was gearing up for a WWF return at the 1996 Royal Rumble. Upon his return, Jake liked what he saw in Austin. Encouraging management to give him a good run, Roberts continually badgered the WWF office to let him work with the future 'Stone Cold'. Why People Believe It: Steve Austin and Jake Roberts would end up working alongside one another at the 1996 King of The Ring. The match was shorter than both wanted, due to an injury suffered by Austin, but Jake eventually got his wish to put his younger peer over. It's believable that Jake Roberts spoke highly of Steve Austin to Vince McMahon. Should We Believe it: Yes, according to Roberts this is 100% the truth. Jake even told Austin himself during the latter's podcast that he saw great potential in him and told the WWF office exactly what he thought.
