6. Scott Hall Actually Came Up With The Crow Gimmick

Sting The CrowStory: When the New World Order took over in WCW with Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash dominating the storylines, Sting knew he needed to do some change. He had to get rid of the blonde hair look and get something darker. That's when he became "The Crow" version of Sting that is still in the wrestling business nearly 20 years later. Apparently there was some wrestler (don't know who) in WCW that actually dressed like The Crow backstage to impress his girlfriend. Hall remembered the look and pitched it to Sting when he was searching for some new gimmick. Sting liked it enough, so that's what they went with. That was back in 1996 shortly after The Crow film was out and it was something of a pop culture hit. Why People Believe It: The film version of The Crow starring Brandon Lee came out in 1994, so it's very likely that the Sting gimmick that showed up two years later was influenced by that. Should We Believe It: Yes. A number of former people in WCW have talked about it and when Sting was on Jim Ross' podcast last year he admitted that Hall suggested it. https://youtu.be/7NTgut5Q3u0 Sting downplayed The Crow aspect of it because he probably didn't want to make it sound like a total rip-off, but that's clearly what the influence was.
