Mick Foley has taken a disturbing number of chair shots to the skull over the years, and the brutality inflicted upon his cranium was instrumental in WWE changing their thought process on how chair shots should be given (and taken).

This barbaric Hell in a Cell match - which, mind-blowingly enough, occurred on a standard episode of Raw - took place months before the infamous I Quit match that would cause millions of viewers to watch through barely parted fingers as The Rock obliterated Foley's head with a steel chair. This was less squirm-inducing than that encounter, but not by a whole lot.

It's never a good sign when J.R. sounds genuinely fearful for the performers, and there were several times during this barrage of chair shots where you could tell he wanted them to hurry up and finish the damn thing already.

"God that's enough! Stop it! Step in there! Dammit!"

Foley never once put his hands up to protect his brain bucket, which is likely why WWE Network now removes any frames that show the impact to his head during rebroadcasts. The Tombstone Piledriver onto the chair may be the cherry on top of this disturbing sundae, but the damage had already been done.
