10 Most Overrated WWE WrestleMania Moments
3. Legends Squash The League - WrestleMania 32
WrestleMania 32 was arguably the most contrived of all time.
Shane McMahon's Cell bump was patently rehearsed. Roman Reigns' WWE Title victory was a failed feat of engineering. No amount of muted microphones could mask the fact that his celebrations were as predictable as they were unwelcome. Moreover, WWE exhumed some legends to make an appearance at the close of the League of Nations' undercard win over The New Day.
"There are no three men in history who could ever go toe to toe with this unit," the League's King Barrett bragged. Funnily enough, it just so happened that Steve Austin, CactusJack and Shawn Michaels were in attendance to counter their claim - all three of whom, firmly retired from an industry in which the word retirement is the dirtiest, were raring to go in their wrestling gear.
There's no suggestion that Austin, Michaels and Foley buried the beleaguered League. The faction was dead on arrival. They were already corpses. The New Day weren't harmed in the aftermath, either; their subsequent face run was a success, at least initially. The act grew stale as a result of overexposure. It had nothing to do with Austin Stunnering them all over the shop.
What was galling - aside from the sheer contrivance of it all - was the positioning of Austin as more or less an extra. It was a role anybody could have played - and there was Austin, the biggest draw in company history, trotted out like he was Ron Simmons.
