6. WWE Wants Seth Rollins To Be The Rock

Before settling into a new persona that has at last made half-decent use of Seth Rollins' obnoxious laugh bit, one that crowds are into because the song is fun to echo and his taunting attire game is really rather good, WWE wanted him to be the Rock.

This was just something that Vince McMahon did: he tried to create like-for-like replacements of his top stars, and where the musclebound Lex Luger played Hulk Hogan once upon a time, Rollins played the unflattering role of one of the most charismatic and witty human beings ever throughout much of the 2010s. Not one of wrestling's known funnymen - although the "Best pro wrestling on the planet, period" bit was a riot, in fairness - he floundered.

In 2016, he feuded with Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens in the regulation "heels win several matches via f*ck finish with no sanctions before it just sort of ends" deal, as part of which he called Jericho "Sparklecrotch". This was because Jericho wore trunks with that sort of pattern.

As the last century turned into this, what happened is that Brian Gewirtz understood Rock's comedic charms and, knowing he could get away with fairly naff material, wrote precisely that, knowing it would get over. This...did not work for Seth, whose attempts at easy-going wise-cracking stand-up were more Scranton than Stamford.

Stamford is significantly less funny, but you get the idea.
