10 Most Patriotic American WWE Wrestlers Ever

10. The Patriot

It might seem strange that a wrestler whose very name and gimmick was that of being pro-American would rank so low on this list, but that€™s both a testament to the others on this list and a comment on the brevity of The Patriot€™s tenure in WWF.

Del Wilkes hit on a perfect character at a perfect time when he debuted in the summer of 1997. Bret Hart had just begun lashing out against America and playing up being a Canadian hero, which lent itself easily to the need for someone to stand up for the United States. Enter The Patriot, who took the fight directly to Hart and the Hart Foundation. While The Patriot was probably not going to be the guy to unseat Hart, he provided the Hitman with a worthy adversary.

Sadly, Patriot€™s tenure with WWF was short-lived, as he tore his triceps that fall and was gone from the company early the following year. However, one lasting impact of The Patriot: his theme song was appropriated by Kurt Angle a couple years later and became one of fans€™ favorites to skewer.

Scott is a former journalist and longtime wrestling fan who was smart enough to abandon WCW during the Monday Night Wars the same time as the Radicalz. He fortunately became a fan in time for WrestleMania III and came back as a fan after a long high school hiatus before WM XIV. Monday nights in the Carlson household are reserved for viewing Raw -- for better or worse.
