10 Most Pointless World Champions In WWE History
9. The Great Khali (2007)
It's easy to picture Vince McMahon's smile when he laid eyes upon The Great Khali. As soon as the Indian giant joined WWE in 2006, he was a shoe-in to become World Champion at some point; in a company obsessed with freak-show giants, a monster like Khali must have represented pure money to McMahon.
Few wrestling fans wanted to see the lumbering big man become World Heavyweight Champion, but the title was put on him during a 20-man Battle Royal on the 20 July 2006 episode of SmackDown. Instead of WWE's marketing machine getting behind such a moment, the new champ dropped his title to Batista just a few short months later.
Worse, Batista's win over Khali didn't even feel that huge. Winning a Triple Threat bout at Unforgiven which also involved Rey Mysterio felt like more of a natural progression, because the babyface had already beaten Khali by DQ at SummerSlam.
Khali's only pay-per-view victory was in another Triple Threat against Kane and Batista at The Great American Bash, and his title loss just a few months after winning the strap did little to put over his 'unstoppable giant' persona.
