Big star on his own or not, it was always going to be difficult to realistically portray CM Punk as a genuine threat to The Undertaker's WrestleMania winning streak in 2013; much smaller than 'Taker, Punk was written as more of a verbal antagonist than an outright physical worry for his 'Mania 29 rival.

When the late-Paul Bearer sadly passed away on March 5, 2013 (a scant month shy of WrestleMania), WWE's writing team made the decision to include his death in the storyline.

Interrupting Undertaker's tribute farewell to his longtime manager, a brazen Punk and Paul Heyman also secured the urn and emptied the vessel's contents live on air. Right there and then, several on social media were turned off from the story.

Even amidst reports that being involved posthumously was something Bearer himself would have wanted, it nonetheless felt a tad crass to shoehorn his passing into a feud which previously had more to do with Punk proving he was the 'Best In The World'; admittedly, the angle did garner heat, but it's hard to shake the feeling that it was tasteless.
