6. Moxley Strikes Back (5.1 Million Views)

In a continuation of Jon Moxley’s feud with Chris Jericho/The Inner Circle and Moxley’s quest to capture the AEW World Championship at the upcoming AEW Revolution pay-per-view, Moxley here takes on Ortiz, accompanied by Santana as Jericho/TIC provided commentary.

Moxley sells his eye injury throughout, having been previously attacked by The Inner Circle. Ortiz gets a good amount of offence in but ultimately falls victim to the Paradigm Shift DDT. Jericho stands up and heckles Moxley as Santana then attacks him. Mox turns the tables though, nailing Santana with a DDT and retrieving the Ford GT car keys from his pocket and yelling at Jericho “An eye for an eye!” as he stabs Santana in the eye in payback before fleeing in the crowd.

It was an excellent follow-up angle that the crowd went wild for and built Jericho and Moxley’s feud that much more. Moxley gave off major Kurt Russell in Escape from New York vibes, feeling reminiscent of Stone Cold Steve Austin in his prime of not caring for consequences and simply kicking ass. It showed AEW were really concentrating on storytelling and follow-up angles which WWE and their lack of have been particularly criticized for.
