His name isn't one that comes up in this discussion very often, but 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper was one of the most protected professional wrestlers in the history of the World Wrestling Federation. The guy managed to feud with Hulk Hogan throughout the entire 1980s and was never pinned by the guy cleanly.

In fact, in the WrestleMania era of World Wresting Federation 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper only lost on TV by clean pin-fall once, and it came at the climax of one of the finest WrestleMania matches of that time. Bret Hart was the victor on that night, reversing Piper's sleeper hold into a pinning predicament for the victory.

In fact, Piper was so protected throughout his career that he beat Hogan in the 1990s via the sleeper hold.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
