10 Most Radical Wrestling Makeovers

5. The Ringmaster To Stone Cold

It seems somehow wrong not to include Stone Cold Steve Austin on this list, considering that - after his makeover in 1996 - he would go on to enjoy perhaps the greatest five-year run of any wrestler in the history of the industry.

Given his success, it's pretty incredible to think that he began life in WWE under the guise of "The Ringmaster", a member of the wrestling nobility who was awarded the Million Dollar Championship by Ted DiBiase on night one.

Put simply, this gimmick didn't suit him at all. His promo delivery style was too tenacious, too confrontational for anyone to believe that he was cut from the same cloth as performers like Bret Hart and Mr Perfect. He was something entirely different.

Luckily, wiser heads soon prevailed, and The Ringmaster had disappeared from our screens entirely by year's end, replaced instead by Stone Cold Steve Austin, a beer-chugging anti-hero with a penchant for getting on the wrong side of the powers that be.
