5. Johnny Elite
Take the heading to this entry with a pinch of his salt as the real-life John Hennigan has already used over a dozen other monikers since first adopting the Johnny Elite moniker in AEW.
Entering to a wildly underwhelming reaction compared to that of previous WWE-to-AEW jumps, the multi-time WWE Tag Team Champion was the mystery opponent for Samoa Joe as part of the men's bracket in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. Tony Khan had delivered, over-delivered in some circumstances, when promising a surprise. Toni Storm had debuted in the same spot as Johnny Elite during the women's bracket - so who did Khan have up his sleeve this time around?
Johnny Gargano?
Killer Kross?
JONAH?
All of those would have sufficed as well-received selections to fight the Samoan Submission Machine but instead, out stepped Johnny Elite. AEW's Twitter was at least enthralled with his arrival... sort of. They tagged Johnny Gargano in the official tweet.
The former John Morrison has wrestled twice more for AEW, besting Marq Quen of Private Party before being felled by Miro. He's unlikely to ever sign a full-time deal with AEW, preferring to instead run the meme into the ground with his litany of ring names.
