4. Ariane Andrew

2020 was a difficult year for All Elite Wrestling.

Like everybody else, the promotion was forced to rethink its entire model to remain on-air on a weekly basis. Taping broadcasts from Daily's Place and the Nightmare Factory, the company was the first to introduce some form of live audience during the empty arena era, utilising lower-ranked roster members and extras to fill some space at ringside.

Some of those extras were subsequently given television time, with the likes of Suge D, Cassandra Golden, and future Dark Order man Alan Angels even making it onto AEW Dynamite. They all performed wonderfully and aided in keeping AEW afloat during this troubling period for what was at the time still an upstart promotion.

Why, then, did Tony Khan think that bringing in Ariane Andrew was a necessary move?

The former Cameron was Nyla Rose's partner for the Women's Tag Team Cup, bested by Anna Jay and Tay Conti in the opening round. This was the first taste of in-ring action for Andrew since her 2016 WWE release and her last until she entered the 2022 women's Royal Rumble match. She's not exactly chasing a career in professional wrestling, which only makes the decision to hire her temporarily all the more mind-boggling.
