2. The Oddities
Watch Summerslam 1998 on the WWE Network, and it's likely eyebrows will be raised at just how over The Oddities were with fans. A lot of this popularity can probably be credited to the Insane Clown Posse, who were a pretty big deal at the time in the music business, but there was something infectious about the ridiculous dancing of Kurrgan, or the Cartman from South Park doll that Golga (played by John 'Earthquake' Tenta) carried with him to ringside. Originally, the faction had been known as the 'Parade Of Human Oddities', fronted by - aforementioned manager - The Jackal. Initially, The Oddities were heels, but that would give way to a fun-loving babyface gimmick that - whilst never going anywhere above the lower mid-card - was very much over with the audience. Even Luna Vahon was given the opportunity to ham it up, which must have been fun for someone who had pretty much played heel for her entire WWF tenure. The freakish appearances of many of the members meant they were well-named, but it can't be denied that fans did take to this completely random assortment of talent.
