10 Most Repeated WWE Storylines

8. Passing The Torch

Nobody can stay at the top forever. In fact, one of WWE's sacred traditions and most overutilized storylines is the passing of the torch, where the company's rising superstar defeats an established veteran for the keys to the kingdom.

It's usually a surefire recipe for success, so long as your red hot babyface's shine doesn't fade with the WWE Universe. Fame is a cruel mistress.

When done well, the end result is an emotional spectacle that solidifies an act poised for wrestling immortality. These moments live forever. Thankfully, even WWE gets this storyline right once in a while.

Jim Ross declaring "the Austin era has begun" at WrestleMania XIV indicated the magnitude of Stone Cold's first world title reign. And despite a frenzied crowd's yearning for Hulkamania, Hogan's clean loss at WrestleMania X8 cemented The Rock among WWE's all-time greats. They passed the absolute hell out of that torch.

But when mishandled, WWE gives the reins to someone who just isn't ready for the responsibility of carrying the company's weight on his back. Ultimate Warrior and Roman Reigns: this Bud's for you.

And more often than not, this kind of fumbling leaves WWE scrambling to re-establish its defeated legend as top dog. Surely, Hogan's numerous post-WrestleMania VI championship victories can speak to that. Boy, did those suck.
