When the New Era kicked off in 2016 we were promised a new start, a new generation. Since then, WWE has lost interest in the 24/7 division, swept the midcard titles further and further into irrelevancy, and has barely a handful of credible tag teams across both its men's and women's divisions. Pay-per-views are built out of three or four 'co-main events' (which aren't a thing), and the mid-to-lower-card talents are left to wallow in uninspired storylines - or are off TV altogether.

It seems impossible that anyone will ever topple the might of WWE, but with AEW hoovering up a huge blend of indie and ex-WWE talent, and Vince McMahon seemingly unwilling or unable to build new stars without squashing them under the boot of a rating-popping veteran, the writing is on the wall. Over to you, NXT 2.0, to be WWE's saving grace...
