Jinder Mahal won the WWE Championship in 2017. This can never be forgotten, this can never be explained.

Okay, the theory behind pushing an Indian Superstar (born in Canada) to the top of the card in a bid to swing the demographic in one of the most populated countries in the world makes sense. What didn't make sense was choosing a below-average worker to carry your company's most prestigious title, and that is only the start of it.

Mahal, the great hope WWE had for getting Indian eyes to tune into their product, was portrayed as your run-of-the-mill, xenophobic, stupid, cowardly foreign heel. He had a pair of lackeys in The Singh Brothers whose main role was to try and escape death at the hands of Randy Orton on a weekly basis, and WWE even brought back the blockbuster double-act of The Great Khali and the Punjabi Prison match. Somehow, Jinder still did not get over, mostly to do with his formulaic, plodding matches and the fact he should never have been anywhere near a PPV pre-show, let alone the WWE Championship.
