When news of Edge and Lita's affair broke, most thought that it would be a PR disaster for WWE and that it would be a huge detriment to the careers of the two superstars. Lita had cheated on her long-time boyfriend Matt Hardy with Edge, a married man and one of Matt's closest friends. However, WWE manipulated the situation to get both Edge and Lita incredibly over as heels. They played up their love rat characters to the max. Edge began humping the ring mat during his entrance and Lita began wearing lower and lower cut tops when she valeted him. It was a hot act, in more ways than one. Their risqué ways peaked during the infamous Live Sex Celebration on the January 9th, 2006 Raw. Coming (ahem) the night after Edge's World Title win at New Year's Revolution, Edge and Lita promised the fans that they were going to have sex right there in the ring, live on Raw. Both performers stripped to their underwear and began to pose in all manner of provocative positions. Their full-on making out was nauseating. Lita popped out of her top. It was an envelop-pushing segment not seen since the Attitude Era and it saw Raw do its best rating in ages, scoring a 4.3 to the previous weeks' 3.7. The Live Sex Celebration itself got received an astronomical 5.2 rating, the highest number for a segment in almost a year. Edge and Lita continued their kinky ways until Lita retired at the 2006 Survivor Series.
