Internal strife is no stranger in the McMahon family and 2003 saw one of the best examples of that as Vince faced his own daughter in the ring. The heat that had been building between Vince and Stephanie led to the confrontation and the match had big time consequences on the line. If Vince won, then Stephanie would have to resign as General Manager of SmackDown. However if she won, then Vince would have to give up his spot as WWE's Chairman of the Board. The family was at odds again and this time the very future of one program, as well as the company itself, hung in the balance. Fans may not have believed that this match would actually take place. After all, what were the chances that Vince would face his own daughter in an I Quit match without the presence of outside forces to spice up the bout? Surely the McMahons would not have to do that much work against each other right? The fact is that they put on a good match and neither one held back. The McMahon family understands that if they are to be involved in the ring that it has to look good. There are too many critical eyes on the product, too many chances for negativity to weigh in on the night and with that being the case, their spots need to look as good as possible. So when Vince choked Stephanie with a pipe to end the bout, fans knew that the family had once again come through.
