4. Vince McMahon Announces The Death Of Chris Benoit On Television
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtVTtBx9tBU The wrestling world came to a stand still, and rightly so. Chris Benoit, perhaps the greatest technical wrestler ever to lace up a pair of boots, had died, along with his wife Nancy and his son Daniel. At the time this was a huge tragedy, as Benoit was one of the most beloved and respected superstars in WWE. However over night he went from hero to villain as the truth behind his family's death became public. After a tribute show to Chris Benoit the night before, Vince McMahon embarrassingly then had to follow on the following night stating that there will never again be a mention of Chris Benoit's name. And rightly so. To this day Vince has kept his word true. This was an incredibly shocking moment as millions knew nothing of Chris Benoit's death until the show aired. It also changed the direction of the WWE product into the more watered down PG stuff we see today. Furthermore it forced WWE to look more carefully into the protection of it's talent, resulting in a banning of blading, steel chair head shots and also the introduction of a stricter wellness policy.
