10 Most Shocking Upset Victories In WWE History
2. Sheamus Beats John Cena
Remember, this was during the ultimate "Super-Cena" phase, where only Randy Orton was allowed to pin John Cena.
Sheamus won a battle royal on an episode of Raw in late 2009 to become number one contender to John Cena's WWE Championship at the TLC pay-per-view. Having debuted with the company less than six months prior, no one gave the big Irishman a chance against the company's biggest name.
Sheamus fought Cena in a TLC match, which should have been a sign that a major upset was on the cards. After a hard fought bout, Cena looked like he was going to superplex Sheamus through a table to win the match. Instead, Sheamus shoved Cena off the top turnbuckle and through the wood below, capturing the prestigious WWE Championship just 166 days after his main roster debut.
Sheamus' astronomical rise to the top of WWE hadn't been seen since the days of Brock Lesnar over seven years ago, so naturally fans were left speechless when The Great White got given such a huge win over such a huge star.
Sadly, things flattened out pretty quickly for Sheamus when he lost the title right before WrestleMania and then got pinned by Triple H at the event, but he'll always have this incredible moment in his already-stacked resume.
